Pheasant Run Mare Manager / Reproduction Technician

Full Time | Farr West, UT

Position Summary: South Valley Equine’s Mare Manager / Reproduction Technician will support and assist veterinarians by completing clinical and clerical tasks while providing the best patient care. They play an essential role in both routine and reproductive medical care. Both clinical skills and knowledge will be utilized in the support of the veterinarian and other staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:
– Assist veterinarians clinically and clerically.
– Daily patient care.
– Prepare for procedures and treatments.
– Administration of PO, IV, and IM medications.
– Shagging of both recipient mares and donor mares.
– Manage laboratory samples – pertaining to both in-house and out-of-house sample obtainment, storage, and disposal.
– Maintain proper documentation in both written and electronic medical record.
– Relay thorough communications to and from clients, doctors, staff, and management.
– Manage reproductive technicians at Farr west location.
– Effective communication with stallion stations, including tasks such as ordering semen and coordinating logistics.
– Management of recipient mares, ensuring their proper care and readiness.
– Knowledge of synchronization protocols to ensure optimal breeding conditions and timing.
– Maintain supplies (medications, bandage materials, and equipment) in the lab and stock side
carts.
– Minimal general barn maintenance includes stall cleaning, feeding, and watering.
– Maintain professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and communication.
– Keep the facilities clean and presentable.
– Process in-house prescription and supplement orders.

Required Skills & Abilities:
– Reliability, punctuality, and adaptability are key components of success as a Reproduction Technician.
– Ability to anticipate veterinarian’s needs.

– Ability to work independently but also be able to take direction from others.
– Open to continuous learning and advancing skills.
– Basic understanding of common equine diseases and behaviors.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
– Communicate with empathy and patience when working with distressed, frustrated and/or disgruntled clients.
– Basic understanding of core vaccinations, and deworming schedules is preferred but not required.
– Basic understanding of laboratory tests is preferred, but not required.
– General understanding of computer applications and hospital software.
– Flexibility with schedule to start early and/or stay late.

Physical Requirements:
– Must be able successfully hold and restrain large animals.
– Must be able to have full range of motion to interact with animals and provide care.
– Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, at times.
– Must be able to access and navigate all terrains of the facilities.

Work Environment:
– May be exposed to outside weather and unfavorable environment conditions.
– Must be able to work effectively in an environment with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, chemicals, animal hair, and other particulates.

Education & Experience:
– High school diploma or equivalent; at minimum
– Equine reproduction experience.
– Excellent customer service skills.
– Management experience.
– Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred.
– Veterinary technician certification preferred.
