Meet Dr Kylie Owen | DVM

Associate Veterinarian, South Valley Equine

At South Valley Equine, our team is built on a shared commitment to exceptional care, collaboration, and a deep respect for the horse. Dr. Kylie Owen embodies each of these values through her thoughtful approach to veterinary medicine and her genuine passion for working with equine patients.

A Passion Rooted in Experience

Dr. Owenโ€™s journey into equine veterinary medicine was shaped by both personal experience and strong mentorship. After attending veterinary school at Michigan State University, she discovered that her early exposure to horsesโ€”combined with influential mentorsโ€”solidified her path in the field.

Her passion for equine care didnโ€™t happen overnight. It developed over time through hands-on experience, meaningful relationships, and a growing appreciation for the complexity and athleticism of the horse. Today, that passion is evident in every aspect of her work.

A Foundation Built on Mentorship

During her veterinary education, Dr. Owen was guided by respected mentors, including Dr. Frank Nickels and Dr. Harold Schott, who played a significant role in shaping her clinical perspective and deepening her commitment to equine medicine.

These early influences continue to impact how she practices todayโ€”emphasizing thoughtful decision-making, continuous learning, and a strong foundation of clinical integrity.

Dedicated to Preventative Care & Whole-Horse Wellness

While Dr. Owen enjoys all aspects of equine medicine, she has developed a particular passion for wellness and preventative care.

She understands that long-term soundness and performance start well before a problem arises. By focusing on early intervention, routine care, and proactive management, she helps horse owners protect their investment and support their horseโ€™s longevity.

An Advocate for the Horse

What truly sets Dr. Owen apart is her unwavering commitment to her patients. She approaches every case with the mindset of being a strong advocate for the horse, always prioritizing what is best for their health, comfort, and long-term well-being.

Her clients value her honesty, her attention to detail, and her ability to make thoughtful, well-informed recommendationsโ€”even in complex situations.

A Lifelong Connection to Horses

Dr. Owenโ€™s relationship with horses began at a young age when her aunt gifted her riding lessons at just 10 years old. She spent years riding English before eventually shifting her focus toward her education and career.

While she no longer competes, her connection to horses remains strong. She still enjoys riding whenever she has the opportunity, staying grounded in the same experiences her clients and their horses share.
