Our Legacy
A legacy built on generations of equine expertise
Across our five locations, more than 100 years of combined heritage, skill, and innovation have come together to shape South Valley Equine. Built by remarkable veterinarians and carried forward through advanced care, proven procedures, and a deep commitment to the horse, our legacy is the foundation of everything we do today—and the standard we continue to raise for the future.
South Valley Large Animal Clinic
A legacy of growth, innovation, and integrity
Founded in 1984 by Dr. Roger Rees, South Valley Large Animal Clinic began as a small ambulatory practice operating out of a home in American Fork. As the needs of the local horse community grew, so did the practice—leading to the addition of a dedicated facility with a surgical suite and hospitalization barn. With the early involvement of Drs. Sieverts and Heaton, the clinic quickly established a strong foundation built on both expertise and service.
In 2019, alongside Drs. Beau Beck, Dr. Kyle Heaton and Dr. Jordan Hammer, the practice transitioned to a larger, state-of-the-art facility in Saratoga Springs to better support a rapidly expanding client base. This growth, fueled by advanced equipment and evolving veterinary techniques, has allowed the clinic to extend its reach throughout Utah and into Arizona—serving a broader equine community while maintaining its high standard of care.
Family has remained a quiet but meaningful part of the clinic’s story. While involvement has evolved over time, the support of spouses and the participation of partners’ children have contributed to a culture grounded in dedication, continuity, and pride.
Today, the clinic is known for its reputation of honest, compassionate, and highly competent care. As part of the South Valley Equine network, it continues to carry forward its legacy—remaining rooted in client-focused service and humane treatment, while continuing to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the equine community.

Arizona Equine Medical & Surgical Centre
Honoring Our Roots, Advancing Equine Care for Generations
Founded in 1984 by Dr. A. Kent Allen, DVM, the practice was built on a clear vision: to provide high-quality, compassionate veterinary care to the equine community. From the beginning, Dr. Allen recognized the need for a trusted, knowledgeable partner in equine health—one that prioritizes both performance and overall well-being. Rooted in strong relationships and clinical excellence, the foundation of the practice was established through a deep commitment not only to the horses it serves, but also to the people who care for them.
As the practice grew, so did its team and capabilities. In 1996, Dr. Scott Taylor, DVM, ACVS, and Dr. Gayle Leith, DVM, MS, AVBP purchased the practice from Dr. Allen, carrying forward his vision while leading the clinic into a new era of growth and advancement. The addition of Dr. Edward Voss, DVM, ACVIM, in 1999 expanded the practice’s expertise in internal medicine. In 2004, Dr. Tresha Robinson, DVM, CAV, CAC, became a partner, further strengthening leadership and broadening the scope of services. Continued growth followed with Dr. Rick Howard, DVM, PhD, ACVS, joining in 2007, enhancing the practice’s surgical capabilities.
What began as a traditional ambulatory service has evolved into a comprehensive equine veterinary center, offering advanced diagnostics, modern treatment options, and a wide range of specialized services. Throughout this evolution, the practice has remained grounded in its core values of trust, integrity, and personalized care—building lasting relationships with horse owners, trainers, and the broader equine community.
Today, Arizona Equine stands as a respected and trusted leader in equine veterinary medicine. While continuing to honor its roots, the practice embraces innovation, collaboration, and ongoing advancement to better serve its clients. This balance ensures a continued commitment to delivering exceptional care and supporting the equine community for generations to come.

LB EQUINE - SPORTS MEDICINE
A legacy rooted in heritage

Founded in 2014, this location was built on a lifelong connection to the Southern Utah horse community. Justin, who grew up ranching in St. George and Pine Valley, was shaped by years of hands-on experience through his family’s ranch, along with involvement in 4-H, FFA, and rodeo. What began as a dream to serve the community that raised him quickly became a trusted equine practice rooted in both experience and purpose.
Family has always been central to the practice. Justin’s wife, Maggie, and their five children have all played a role along the way, and that same family-first mindset extends to the entire team. It’s a culture built on hard work, trust, and showing up when it matters—both for clients and for each other.
Over time, the practice has grown from a small operation into a respected presence in the region, known for its focus on sports medicine and lameness care. While the team and capabilities have expanded, the approach remains the same: practical, personalized care for performance, rodeo, and ranch horses.
Today, that legacy continues forward—preserving its family-owned values while growing through its partnership with South Valley Equine, allowing the team to serve its community with even greater resources, support, and care.
